Shylock's Diary: A Poem

SHYLOCK’S DIARY: A Poem
By: Jaquelyn, Rachel, Roberto, Urvi and Zara
Year 10

Alienated by society
Lowest on the social hierarchy
Traumatic wounds so cruelly created
Devil in a gaberdine I am forever fated
The villainy taught I will execute
The Christians know only to persecute
But why?
Because I am a Jew.

Revenge is what I desire
Only that will fuel my fire
In my eyes we are all equal
Why must they be so deceitful
We all share a common humanity
Yet I am considered a profanity
But why?
Because I am a Jew.

Everyday I think of my wife,
Who shimmered in Jessica- she left me in strife
How? What? What did I teach her?
To leave her father like a cur?
For a supercilious Christian boy-
He pilfered my money and pilfered my joy
But why?
Because I am a Jew.

If you slit my wrists
Or pulp me with your fists
You shall see
The blood flowing like the high sea
It is the same vapour-
That is teeming through that traitor
Our loch is severed,
The meander dismembered
But why?
Because I am a Jew.

It will not be repaid, my precious cash,
All because his ships have crashed.
I will make him pay,
How sweet this revenge, I cannot say
No one can help him, he cannot pay his debt,
He cannot escape, the terms have not been met.
I will not care who I hurt,
Everyone treats me like dirt
But why?
Because I am a Jew.
